As immigrants flocked from around the world to the mines of the reef, it was Charles Glass who struck real gold.

In the dedicated pursuit of the perfect taste, he would wheel his barrow through the rapidly growing mining villages, keenly observing the various reactions to his different brewing recipes.

He eventually hit upon a taste that won unanimous acclaim – Castle Lager!

Castle Lager is a classic South African lager, built on a legacy of quality, brewing care and experience. It is a standard-strength lager with a unique taste, somewhat dry, somewhat bitter, never sweet (5% alcohol by volume). Lightly golden with good white head. Medium hop scent, smooth mouthfeel and not a heavy body. Just the right amount of hop "bitterings" with a light dry finish. A nice refreshing beer.
